Every language in the world has five registers (Joos, 1967).

Language that is always the same. For Example: Pledge of Allegiance, Lord's Prayer, Happy Birthday Song, Girl Scout Pledge, Prayer of the Rosary, etc
Standard language of work and school, complete sentences and various vocabulary choices. Formal when used in conversation, more free flowing and less direct when not in conversation. Exchange between friends and typically limited to a 400-800 word vocabulary. Sentence syntax often incomplete. Non-verbal cues present. Language between lovers and twins. Did you notice the difference in these stories? A story given within a Formal Register has a clear chronological order with a plot, climax and resolution. The speaker gets straight to the point. In a story given within the Casual Register the speaker often circles around an issue before finally coming to a point. Oftentimes interjections and conversational participation is encouraged.
